Catching Eels

We have been reading an article about how to catch eels with a hinaki. This is a net made of wire netting that traps the eel inside. Here is a diagram to show you how it works.

Omaru Creek Testing

Testing Omaru Creek for - The Smell

I am going to find out: What does the Omaru Creek water smell like compared to the other 4 samples of water.

I am going to test this by: Smelling the waters and thinking what is smells like.

Resources and equipment: We will need 2 buckets, some string, jars and 4 samples of water.

I predict that: The Culvert will smell nasty, foul and musty because it is near the road and it has brown bits on the top of the surface. The tap water will be fresh, clear and see thru. I think that the bridge water will smell nasty and acrid.

I think this because: The Culvert is nasty and foul because it is near the road and cars go past the pipes underneath. And people just throw their rubbish. I am so shocked that the bridge water smell funny to me,and it is grose.

Results of my tests

Seawater
Smells normal and salty.
Tap water
Smells Odourless.
Omaru Creek water by culvert
Smells sweet,musty and foul.
Omaru Creek water by bridge
Smells nasty,fresh and acrid

My conclusion (what I found out): I found out that the culvert is foul and sweet. And that the tap water is really clear and fresh.

Why I think this is: Because the culvert is dirty that the tap water. And I think that the best water is tap water

Omaru Creek Testing

Testing Omaru Creek for - Turbidity

I am going to find out: I am going to find out what can I see thru the 4 samples of water that is called Turbidity.

I am going to test this by: I am going to test this by looking thru the 4 jars and thinking what I can see thru it.

Resources and equipment: We will need 2 buckets, some string,4 jars and 4 samples of water.

I predict that: I think I can see the biggest words at the back of the tap water. The seawater is going to be a little bit blurry for me to read the words. The culvert water will be very clear for me to see,I think I can see the littlest one thru the culvert water. The bridge will be clear to see. I can see all of them.

I think this because: The tap water is white, clean and clear. Seawater is blurry and cloudy. The culvert is clean and it has changed waters. The bridge has gone green and it has bits on the top of the cup. I think that the dirtiest water will be the bridge. And the cleanest one will be the tap water.

Results of my tests

Seawater
12

Tap water
9
Omaru Creek water by culvert
12
Omaru Creek water by bridge
14

My conclusion (what I found out): I found out that the bridge was the direst because it is green and it is hard to see the words. The cleanest was the tap water because it was much better to see thru it.

Why I think this is: I think this because the bridge is green, ugly and foul. And the tap water was fresh and you could see better than the bridge.

Omaru Creek Testing

Testing Omaru Creek for - Colour

I am going to find out: What colour the water is.

I am going to test this by: Comparing different water samples and describing the colour.

Resources and equipment: We will need 4 water samples from
The Culvert, The Bridge, The Sea, The tap, and 4 Glass Jars.

I predict that: The Culvert will be dark brown. The Bridge will be medium green. The sea will be clear and the tap water will be clear nice and light and beautiful.

I think this because: The dirtiest water will be the Culvert because it comes from the road and it has gas and rubbish. The clean water will be the seawater because the mangroves make it clean.

Results of my tests

Seawater
The Seawater is cloudy like the clouds in the sky.
Tap water
The Tap water is transparent.
Omaru Creek water by culvert
The Culvert has brown bits that are floating on the top of the cup.
Omaru Creek water by bridge
The Bridge is clear and light green.

My conclusion (what I found out): I found out that the Culvert was the dirtiest one after all. I was surprised that the Seawater was the cleanest because of the Mangroves.

Why I think this is: I think the Seawater was clean because of the Mangroves help to take all of those dirty things that live in the water. The Culvert is dirty because there were little brown bits and it has lumps that come from the road.

Mangere Pools

Do you like Mangere pools?. Well now I know I do. Our trip there was a lovely sunny day for our last day of camp. All of the year 5 and 6`s couldnt wait they were too excited. I think Mangere pools is a fun place to go with your family and friends.

Lining up for the water slide of my life, my heart was pumping, my arms and legs were shaking from fear. I was worried about what would happen to me at the end. Would I be able to touch the bottom? What happens if I bump my head? Who will save me? All these fears were running through my mind as I made it to the front of the line. Going onto the slide I slipped and I felt like I needed my MUM!!.

Pushing myself off, I shut my eyes closed,I didn't want to look at all. Can I make it?. Here I go. SWISH!!. It felt like I was on the Fall at Rainbows End. Splash!! into the deep pool. Oh My Gosh I could not touch the ground, but then I started doing doggy paddles to the edge of the pool. I think that was not that bad,but I am not going on it again.

In the middle of the pool there was this straightest thing I ever saw. It looked like little volcano spa to me. Everyone said it was a buttercup. I think I should try it, Do you think I should?. I got in it was warm, comfortable and cosy. There was a air vent that can float you up to the top. It felt like I was in the adult spa pool. But this straightest was more warmer than a real spa pool. Would you like to try?

This was a nice day for the year 5 and 6`s. Camp is fun. People you can enjoy this pool with your family. I hope we can do this another time. I hope you can go there and feel happy and safe. Go there if you DARE!!

Testing

I was so shocked because Miss Garden said “BE PREPARED !”.  A few weeks ago, I had been doing 3 tests. Our 3 tests  were reading, writing and maths. I thought the 3 tests were so easy. I was so nervous, I could not move at all .

I was shaking I had goose bumps everywhere.  It was like I was going to throw up, I think I was sick. I think I couldn't do another test at all. Tired exhausted, shocked and sad. My hands were so so so!! tired!!. But I believed in my own choices.

Our 1st test was reading. Going on to the computer  we all ticked the box and the clicked on sit test. Our 2nd was writing. Writing was really hard because my fingers were tried typing. Testing is much more better on the computer than on pencil and paper.

I think I did my test very well from the past 2 weeks. I love testing so much. Testing can help you learn something and it can make you brainier. My favorite on was......... WRITING!! WOOHOO!!. PT ENGLAND STRIVE TO SUCCEED!!.
