50 Word Story

Celebrating a fantastic, incredible finish, Richard Whitehead is disabled but he won the 100m sprint race at the Paralympics. Jumping in the air being proud of himself, the crowd goes wild. Great Britain has achieved once and for all, with their amputee champion.I believe that athletes can try hard.

Dear Nikita,

My name is Courtney Block and I am a junior at the University of South Alabama. I read your blog post from the 12th of September. I was very impressed about how involved you guys are with the Olympics. I have a 13 year-old sister who is a swimmer and she just loved watching the Divers, swimmers, and synchronized swimmers. She was the one who got me into watching the Olympics this year.
I learned something new today and it was because of you! I did not know who Richard Whitehead was until I read your blog. After I did a little research I found that he was a very interesting and persevering man. Did you know that he holds the record for double amputees? He also, was a coach for swimming and hockey. He is very impressive and I was thrilled that I had the privilege to learn about him. I do believe it was a 200m race that he won though. I do want to add in, that not only athletes can win if they try hard, so can you! If you put your mind to anything, anything at all you will be able to accomplish it. I do appreciate you teaching me about a very special person! Thank you.
